Field-Based Engineer – Job Description
About the Role
Our client is looking for a Field-Based Engineer to carry out the installation, repair, and servicing of mechanical and electrical equipment at customer sites. This is a mobile role that involves travel and hands-on technical work in a variety of environments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment
- Diagnosing faults and completing effective repairs
- Managing and maintaining vehicle stock
- Accurately completing reports and documentation for internal processing and customer records
- Delivering excellent customer service while representing the company on-site
As the face of the business, the engineer must uphold high standards of professionalism and work towards meeting service targets, including timely attendance and first-time fix rates.
Requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Proven experience in fault finding, diagnosis, and repair within plant, automotive, or industrial machinery
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and CAD drawings
- Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic knowledge
- Good understanding of Health & Safety regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic, with a proactive attitude
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team
- Flexible and adaptable with a strong problem-solving approach
- Basic computer literacy
- Friendly, customer-focused approach
Desirable Criteria
- Awareness of LOLER and PUWER legislation
- NVQ qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering
- Possession of a CSCS card
- Previous field service experience

The role is Monday to Friday, with 1 in 4 weekends on call. Salary £40-£42k (OTE £50-£55k)
